This adorable, cuddle-loving, furry glory i.e. cat, has a lot of interesting facts, but here I am going to share some of these.
PETS
Are you ailurophobe or ailurophile? Wait... I will tell the meaning of these words too but first I have decided to start this article with these fancy terminologies which are related to a very interesting domestic animal i.e. Cat (Felis catus). This adorable, cuddle-loving, furry glory i.e. cat, has a lot of interesting facts, but here I am going to share some of these.
Interesting vocabulary about cats
Let’s start with ‘ailurophobe and ailurophile’. As I have used these words in a question, if you don’t know the meaning of these before then don’t worry. Now you can elevate your vocabulary with these fancy words. Ailurophile means “cat lover’ and ailurophobe means ‘fear of cats’.
Some more interesting terms are used for cats such as kindle, clowder, molly/queen, and tom.
The term, Kindle is used for a “group of kittens born to one mama cat” and clowder is used for a group of grown-up cats.
Molly/queen, this term is often labeled for female cats. Have you ever noticed a female cat? This word, Queen, comes so true to its pride attitude and majestic body language. If I am not wrong, we all are familiar with the word ‘tom’ from the famous cartoon, Tom and Jerry. A male cat is often tagged as a Tom in the dictionary.
Cats love their grooming
Cats care about their grooming so much that they spend almost half of their day cleaning themselves. Are you that much groomed? I asked this question to myself when I came to know this interesting fact about these furry glories i.e. cats. A study has revealed this reality to me that cats love to spend “between 30 to 50 percent” of their day in grooming and cleaning by licking themselves and other cats. Though their motives for this behavior vary, I can easily assume one of the reasons could be “a sign of affection”, and it's true, a mother cat licks its kitten and familiar cats lick each other is to show their affection and mutual trust.
Other causes behind their cleaning behavior are:
To protect themselves and their kittens from predators as in this way they lighten their odor.
To maintain their body temperature and blood flow.
Cats can be lactose intolerant
This is not true that milk is always a good diet for your cat, might be your cat become sick after drinking it. This fact is shocking to me too that cats can be lactose intolerant and it is not a good idea to give them treat with milk only.
Cats don’t have taste buds for sweets
If you give your cat a piece of cake then it would not enjoy your offer cause cats don’t have sweet-tooth. This is another strange fact about cats that they are not able to taste sugary items.
Cats enjoy water or not.
Usually, it is observed that when we throw water at a cat it becomes frightened and feels uncomfortable with soggy fur but not all cats hate water or bath. Turkish Van, Maine Coons, and Bengals, cats from these breeds love to play with water.
Cats like boxes
Another fun fact about cats are they love to hide in small boxes and cuddle up in them. Cats prefer enclosed space like boxes for getting a feel of protection, stress-relieving and in this way, they keep their body temperature warm which is relaxing for them too.
The myth related to cats
Black cats have been considered to be bad luck and linked with witches and black magic in different societies. But this myth has been perceived vise versa in great Britain and Japan. Japanese consider the black cat as a good luck charm for a single woman and in the English Midlands, black cats are given to new brides to bless their marriages.
Other interesting facts about cats.
There is another amazing fact about these furry glories is they spend nearly two-thirds of their lives asleep.
Cats use their paws for sweating.
This is not enough, a cat can rotate its ears 180 degrees.
While ending up my article entitled, interesting facts about furry glories i.e. cats, I cannot overlook the astonishing information that cats can be without fur. It’s true, Sphynx cats don’t have fur on their skin. The more I try to explore facts about this animal the more I become surprised by its unique behavior, beauty, and human perception and myth about it. If you have a cat as a pet, then no doubt this mischievous, curious, adorable animal can make an amazing companion for you.
